Each AirPod has its own camera sensor. They capture synchronized color images at the same time, using matching frame IDs so the system knows both photos are from the same moment. Apple originally planned to launch camera AirPods in 2026. But supply chain issues and software problems pushed it back. Gurman says the new target is 2027, potentially alongside the 20th-anniversary iPhone.
